What you'll do
GCO IPE&D Infrastructure and Solution Engineering is the team behind SAP Cloud Infrastructure (SCI) — SAP's sovereign-grade IaaS platform running across 15+ SAP-owned data centers worldwide. We build and operate the infrastructure that powers SAP's most security-sensitive customers: government agencies, defense contractors, and critical national infrastructure.
We are looking for a hands-on Solution Architect to join our Germany-based team. You own the customer relationship and the architecture — from the first engagement to the validated solution. You work in a Buddy pair with a Solution Engineer — you lead the customer conversation and own the architecture, your SE drives the technical execution. Both roles require deep technical engagement. This is not a pre-sales role. You are accountable for the outcome.
Our customer base spans both external and internal: government agencies, defense contractors, and regulated enterprises on the external side — and SAP's own business lines including BTP, HANA Cloud, S/4HANA, and Ariba on the internal side. Engagements range from enterprise-scale cloud migrations to sovereign cloud deployments with the most stringent security and compliance requirements in the industry.
The Role
• Customer Engagement Leadership: Own complex technical engagements end-to-end — from requirements intake to validated architecture. You are the primary contact for your customers and responsible for their technical success on SCI.
• Architecture Recommendations: Develop architecture proposals for demanding infrastructure requirements — network integration, sovereign cloud, security isolation, compute. You make the call and stand behind it.
• Gap Identification & Product Feedback: Identify platform gaps that block customer success. Translate them into precise specifications for Product Management and Engineering — this is how the platform improves.
• Buddy Model Leadership: Lead your SA+SE pair. Guide your SE Buddy into the right engagements, review their ADRs, and ensure knowledge stays in the team — not just in one person's head.
• Reusable Assets: Contribute blueprints and whitepapers that the whole team builds on. Good architectural work should never be redone from scratch.
What you bring
We are looking for someone who is technically credible, customer-facing, and comfortable making decisions under ambiguity. You lead a conversation in a room full of engineers and executives — and earn the trust of both.
• 7+ years of relevant experience as a Solutions Architect, Senior Cloud Engineer, or Technical Account Manager
• Broad technical understanding across multiple domains — network, compute, storage, security — you don't need to configure everything yourself, but you need to know when something is wrong
• Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP) — OpenStack experience is a strong plus
• Proven experience leading customer-facing technical engagements — workshops, architecture reviews, blocker resolution
• Strong written and verbal communication — you can run a customer workshop and write an executive summary the same day
• Degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, or equivalent practical experience
• Fluent in German and/or English — German is a strong advantage for our public sector and defense customers
Meet your Team
The PlusOne Solution Engineering team is a small, senior group operating at the intersection of infrastructure engineering and customer success. We are embedded in GCID — the organization running SAP's global cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with network engineers, product managers, and directly with customers ranging from federal agencies to global aerospace companies.
We value people who make themselves useful, document what they learn, and are honest about what they don't know yet.
