Our team of 1,500 Personios is building user-friendly products that delight our 15,000+ customers and their million employees. Ready to make an impact from day one?

This role requires 2 days per week in the office and is based in Dublin, Munich, or Berlin.

    About Personio

At Personio, we're building the People Operating System for Europe. Our mission is to make HR effortless so teams can focus on what really matters. We serve 16,000+ customers across Europe and are scaling fast as we move towards IPO.

    The Role

We're hiring a Senior Engineering Manager (L6) to lead a large, senior team of software engineers within our Apps product area.

At its core the team owns Recruiting — the product our customers use to run their entire hiring process, from advertising a role to making an offer, one of Personio's biggest revenue drivers and one of the most widely used products in the platform. The team also owns other apps including Whistleblowing and Workforce Planning. Right now it's making hiring smarter with AI, building AI screening and smart candidate pipelines that help customers find the right people faster. The work is meaningful, high-impact, and visible at the highest levels of the company.

You'll inherit a large, senior team that balances technical debt and legacy systems with building the new capabilities our customers are asking for. You'll play a key role in raising the bar on how value is delivered, how technical direction is set, and how your engineers grow.

    About the Team

Recruiting sits within Personio's Apps product area and is central to how our customers attract and hire talent — for many, the first part of Personio they ever touch. Together with the rest of the Apps suite, it makes up a broad, high-traffic slice of the product.

    This team:

Is large and senior-heavy, weighted towards staff and senior engineers

Is based across Munich, Berlin and Dublin — with the largest group of engineers, and your Product partner, in Munich — and has a strong in-office collaboration culture

Owns Recruiting end to end, alongside Whistleblowing and Workforce Planning, serving some of our most demanding customers

Balances mature, high-traffic systems with new, AI-led capabilities like AI screening and smart candidate pipelines

Works closely with Product, Design, and partner teams across the Apps area and the wider platform

    What You'll Do

Lead, mentor, and develop a senior team of software engineers, supporting performance management, promotions, and career growth

Own delivery, where reliability for existing customers matters as much as shipping what's next

Set the technical direction with your senior engineers, and raise the bar on how the team turns customer problems into delivered value

Balance paying down technical debt and modernising legacy systems against building new, AI-led capabilities — making the trade-offs explicit

Partner closely with your Product Manager to shape the roadmap, grounding technical investment in customer and business outcomes

Stay close enough to the code and the systems to challenge your team on technical topics and represent the domain credibly in cross-functional discussions

    What We're Looking For

Proven experience as an Engineering Manager leading product teams, with a track record of growing and managing senior engineers

Strong engineering background — ideally backend or full-stack — having been hands-on recently enough to engage meaningfully in technical decisions

Comfortable navigating significant legacy complexity while steering a team towards a modern, AI-enabled product

Excellent stakeholder management, with a strong sense of customer and business value

Demonstrated ability to partner with Product on prioritisation and to articulate why work matters in customer and business terms

Solid performance management experience, including coaching, promoting, and addressing underperformance

A collaborative leadership style that fosters a healthy, inclusive team culture across multiple locations

    Why Personio

Personio is an equal opportunities employer, committed to building an integrative culture where everyone feels welcomed and supported. We embrace uniqueness and understand that our diverse, values-driven culture makes us stronger. We are proud to have an inclusive workplace environment that will foster your development no matter your gender, civil status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, education level, or race.

Personio's intelligent HR platform helps small and medium-sized organizations unlock the power of people by making complicated, time-consuming tasks simple and efficient. Our team of 1,500 Personios is building user-friendly products that delight our 15,000+ customers and their million employees. Ready to make an impact from day one?

This role requires 2 days per week in the office and is based in Munich, Berlin, or Dublin.

Personio is on the path to becoming an AI-first company, redesigning how every department operates, and the Internal AI team is leading that transformation from the inside.

Central to that mission is building Personio's internal AI operating system: the layer of automations, agents, and tools each function runs on. Internal AI PMs own this at the domain level — taking on the most complex or highest-stakes business functions, working end-to-end from process mapping to roadmap to adoption.

Most PMs hand off to engineers. This role is different. You own the roadmap and you ship it, working alongside a team of AI Engineers when projects need deeper technical depth. We're looking for experienced builders with direct, hands-on experience with AI and automation — people who have already shipped things in production and can bring that credibility into conversations with C-level stakeholders.

    Role Responsibilities: What you‘ll do

    Shape the roadmap

Map workflows with department leadership and C-level stakeholders to identify where time and capacity are lost, distinguishing what can be accelerated from what should be redesigned entirely

Push beyond "automate what exists": the highest-value opportunities redesign the workflow, not just speed it up

Size and validate before building; maintain a prioritised backlog with clear rationale, and own the quarterly view presented to your domain head and C-level counterparts

Represent the Internal AI team in your domain, surfacing blockers and opportunities back to the Director of AI and keeping senior stakeholders aligned on priorities and tradeoffs

Contribute to how the Internal AI PM team operates: share approaches to prioritisation, governance, and stakeholder alignment that raise the bar across the function

    Build and ship to production

Design, build, test, and deploy automations and agents across your domain using Personio's internal AI stack, taking solutions from initial scoping through to production systems the business relies on

Own the full build lifecycle: not just prototypes, but live, maintained solutions with real adoption and measurable outcomes

Bring in AI Engineers for the most complex problems; know where that line is and involve them early

Register every build in the Tool Register and uphold Personio's AI governance standards: your solutions set the bar for the whole organisation

    Drive adoption and outcomes

Shipping is not the finish line; adoption is. Own whether solutions get used and deliver the outcomes you scoped

Track usage and impact after deployment and iterate based on real usage, not spec assumptions

Build AI capability across your domain by running sessions, office hours, and hands-on coaching that help colleagues adopt AI tools and build simple automations themselves. The goal is a function that moves with AI independently, not one that waits for the AI team

Role Requirements: What you need to succeed

5-7+ years in product management, automation, or AI engineering at a fast-paced tech company or consultancy — shipping production solutions, not prototypes

A track record of building and deploying automations and AI solutions end-to-end, from requirements to live, maintained systems with real adoption

Hands-on with the modern AI build stack: LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI), agent frameworks ( LangGraph), MCP and RAG, and no-code platforms (n8n, Make, Zapier, Cowork)

Working knowledge of Python and SQL

Strong product judgment and senior-stakeholder influence: turning ambiguous needs into scoped solutions, owning a prioritised roadmap, and driving change with C-level stakeholders without direct authority

A clear view of where AI and automation can and can't help, and where the space is heading
